Frequently asked questions
How does Thermoskin work?
Thermoskin places a fine, totally natural, film all over the freshly shorn sheep that helps maintain a consistent body temperature in the first 3 to 4 weeks after shearing. Shorn sheep stay warm and maintain pre-shorn condition. It saves shorn sheep from the impact of cold weather and improves productivity by ensuring there is no check after shearing.
How do you put it on?
Thermoskin is best and most efficiently applied through a Thermoskin Spray Unit system. It takes only a couple of seconds for an animal to run through, it dries in two minutes and you can expose the animals to wind, rain, snow or sleet 10-15 minutes after application without affecting the efficacy of the product.
Can it be used with lice treatments?
It can be used directly with solvent based treatments NOT WATER BASED. If sheep are exposed to water based treatments (backline), they must be TOTALLY DRY before treating with Thermoskin.
Will Thermoskin harm the animals?
No, it is based on lanolin with all other ingredients apart from the solvent being natural and physiologically harmless. The film will not block the anus, vulva, pizzle, eyes, ears or mouth of the animal.
Will Thermoskin damage the wool?
No, it does not damage or affect the wool. If any residual is left on the wool, it is easily removed with normal scouring practices.
Which animals can be treated?
Thermoskin can be applied to all ages and breeds of sheep. It has been used successfully on mohair and angora goats and in fact can be used on any animal that needs to be kept warm, including horses.
Is Thermoskin environmentally friendly?
Yes, Thermoskin contains all natural ingredients and is 100% biodegradable. It will not produce residues that are likely to adversely affect the environment through scouring plant effluent.
