The energy side is the key to why I see a product like Thermoskin helpful. Off shears our weaners often struggle and go backwards for a few weeks as they are putting too much energy into keeping warm. With Thermoskin this year they didn't really go backwards which made a percentage saleable.
For us to be able to lamb sufficient numbers at one time puts a lot of pressure on us to manage it. If we split the lambing we split the risk. It is now a very good risk management tool. We split the lambing which also splits our sales and we can spread out our wool sales. We've been able to keep the business afloat that way.
With valuable lambs close to being finished, I did not want them to check in cold weather so using Thermoskin is a pretty logical decision for me, says Sam Hamilton of Rylstone.
Allan Hood ...We fully support Thermoskin as a prevention for hypothermia in shorn sheep and have seen the benefits over the past five years.
